Founder - Ivan Bognani
Hi, I'm Ivan, the founder of The original Barber of Ivan Bognani, I was born in Tortona on Valentine's Day but baptized in my family's city, Catania.
I grew up between Piedmont and Sicily, in the summer I spent hours at my grandparents' barber's house, in the shops you could breathe the scent of cologne that invaded the streets.
As a kid I enjoyed doing my classmates' hair and since I couldn't sit still for hours, I went to work in a salon, but in Piedmont there were few barbers so, for more than ten years I grew up as hair salon.
I have always had the ambition of having my own shop and for this reason, after years of being employed, I decided to open The Original Barber shop in 2015, based in Tortona.
A month after it opened I went for a training course on Italian-style beard shaving, but I didn't know that that course would have such an influence on my working life.
Having grown up in Catania, home of barbers, I have always been fascinated by the straight razor so I started looking online for who used it, one evening whilst surfing the television I came across the docu-film Barbieri d'Italia and the image by Enzo Scapicchio I was amazed.
I went to Bovino to study the technique of Italian-style beard shaving and razor sharpening.
Back home, with perseverance, passion and commitment I began to delve into sharpening straight razors and month after month I refined the technique more and more.
After a couple of years I became a Master Barber, this role as a trainer gave me the opportunity to get on the best stages in the sector in Italy and Europe, taking our method and our craftsmanship ever higher.
In 2022, Ivan Bognani's The Original Barber became Barberia & Accademia, the only training center in Northern Italy for Italian-style beard shaving and razor sharpening.
At the end of 2022, I started producing my own hair care products and at the beginning of 2024 I completed the range of beard care and shaving products.
Consistency, commitment, ambition, dedication and passion have led me and encourage me every day to aim for a greater goal!
